Signs the Gasket Needs Replacing
- Replace the gasket when the drive shaft housing is separated, or if the existing gasket is torn, compressed, cracked, hardened, deteriorated or damaged during disassembly.
- A compromised gasket can contribute to improper sealing around the housing and water passages.
Maintenance Advice
- When installing the replacement gasket, thoroughly clean the mating surfaces without gouging the aluminium housing. Check both surfaces for corrosion or damage and ensure all gasket passages and mounting holes align correctly before tightening the housing.
- Avoid reusing an old compressed gasket during a lower-unit rebuild.
