Signs the Oil Seal Needs Replacing
- Replace the seal if you find milky or cloudy gear oil, water in the gearbox, gear-oil leakage, visible cracking or hardening of the seal lip, a damaged sealing edge, corrosion around the seal area, or excessive wear on the shaft where the seal runs.
- When replacing the seal, inspect the corresponding shaft surface carefully. A groove or corrosion on the sealing surface can cause a new oil seal to leak prematurely.
