When to Replace

  • For routine maintenance, it is good practice to replace these sealing gaskets when changing the lower-unit gear oil, particularly if the old washer is flattened, cracked, torn, hardened or damaged.
  • A damaged gasket can allow gear oil to escape or water to enter the gearcase. Water-contaminated oil can lead to corrosion and premature bearing and gear damage.
