The NGK BR7ES (Stock No. 5122) is a standard resistor-type nickel spark plug used in selected marine and outboard applications. Featuring a copper-core centre electrode, M14 × 1.25 thread, 19 mm reach and 0.8 mm preset gap, it provides reliable ignition, efficient heat transfer and electrical-noise suppression. Its long-reach gasket-seat design must only be used in engines specifically requiring BR7ES.

Compatible Outboard Motors

  • The important point with BR7ES is its 19 mm reach. It should not be confused with the much shorter BR7HS / BR7HS-10, which have a 12.7 mm reach.
  • Verified marine cross-reference data identifies BR7ES with Evinrude/Johnson/OMC 509575.

Important Fitment Information

  • BR7ES is not the same spark plug as BR7HS or BR7HS-10.
  • - BR7ES: 19 mm / 3/4" reach
  • - BR7HS: 12.7 mm / 1/2" reach
  • - BR7HS-10: 12.7 mm / 1/2" reach with 1.0 mm nominal gap
  • The E in BR7ES identifies the longer 19 mm thread reach. Installing a long-reach BR7ES in an engine designed for a short-reach BR7HS can result in excessive thread protrusion into the combustion chamber and possible engine damage.

Signs the Spark Plug Needs Replacing

  • - Difficult starting
  • - Rough or unstable idle
  • - Engine misfire
  • - Reduced power
  • - Poor acceleration
  • - Increased fuel consumption
  • - Carbon or oil fouling
  • - Worn or rounded electrodes
  • - Excessive electrode gap
  • - Corrosion around the plug body
  • - Cracked or damaged ceramic insulator
