Signs the Piston Pin Needs Replacing
- A piston pin should be inspected during an engine rebuild if there is excessive piston movement, abnormal knocking, scoring or discolouration on the pin, measurable wear, damaged pin surfaces, worn connecting-rod small-end components, or piston seizure/overheating damage.
- Because this is a precision internal engine component, piston-pin and connecting-rod clearances should be checked against the appropriate engine service specifications during overhaul.
