- Common reasons to inspect or replace the piston ring include low compression, difficult starting, reduced power, excessive blow-by, cylinder/piston overhaul, visible ring wear, scoring, cracking or loss of ring tension.
- Cylinder condition and ring end gap should also be checked during an engine rebuild rather than replacing the ring without inspecting the bore.
