When to Replace
- Replace the O-ring if it is flattened, hardened, cracked, cut, swollen or permanently distorted. It should also be carefully inspected whenever the propeller shaft housing/bearing carrier is removed.
- Gear oil leaking around the carrier or milky gear oil indicating water contamination can be signs that the lower-unit sealing system requires inspection.
