7-Pin Flat Plug Compatibility
- A particularly useful feature of the FSB12 is that the first row of seven contacts accepts a normal 7-pin flat trailer plug. This allows a vehicle fitted with the 12-pin socket to tow compatible trailers using either a 12-pin flat connection or a conventional 7-pin flat plug for standard trailer electrical functions.
12-Pin Electrical Functions
- The 12-pin system provides connections for standard trailer lighting as well as additional circuits. Depending on how the tow vehicle and trailer are wired, these can accommodate functions such as indicators, stop lights, tail/clearance lights, electric brakes, reverse or auxiliary circuits and power for compatible caravan or camper equipment. The current wiring diagram identifies the standard seven circuits separately from additional terminals 8–12.
Suitable Applications
- Suitable for boat trailers, caravans, camper trailers, utility trailers, enclosed trailers and other towing applications requiring a 12-pin flat electrical connection. It is particularly useful on tow vehicles that may also need to connect to trailers fitted with a standard 7-pin flat plug.
Signs the Trailer Socket Needs Replacing
- Replace the socket if the housing becomes cracked or damaged, terminals are heavily corroded, electrical connections become loose, the lid no longer closes correctly, terminals show signs of overheating, or trailer lights and accessories operate intermittently when the plug is moved.
